Ursula Curran is the daughter of the late San Juan potter Alvin Curran and the prize-winning Santa Clara potter Dolores Curran.
Ursula wrote the following statement about her pottery.
“I am 25 years old (2004). I started doing pottery at 21 because I wanted more time at home with my son. I learned to pot from my mother Dolores Curran and some from my father Alvin Curran. My son is currently 4 years old. I am from the pueblos of Santa Clara and San Juan.
Some day I hope to become a master potter, but I also hope to go back to school to study criminal profiling. I have high hope for may artwork, and I still have head-butting moments with my Mom when it comes to work, but eventually she wins over and I have to listen.
I also do work with my brother (Dwight) who is 16. We usually do figures like turtles and bird dishes and bird bowls.
It was my first year at Santa Fe Indian Market this year, but I didn’t enter any work. Sometimes when it come to my work I am more critical than anyone.”
Ursula has learned an enormous amount in her four years and has a very bright future ahead of her.
